The Americas is the only region to show an increase in hotel construction and development activity in the first quarter of 2024, contrasting with declines or slower growth in Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East and Africa.

HSBC initiates stock coverage in the leisure and travel sector, including Buy ratings for Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, and Host Hotels, along with Hold ratings for Park Hotels, Choice Hotels, and Service Properties Trust. Various hotels across the US, including Marriott Vail and Signia by Hilton Atlanta, are undergoing construction or renovation. Hyatt Hotels plans to launch a vacation rental platform, Homes & Hideaways, while Sonesta opens a new hotel in Houston and Mandarina Oriental expands into Zurich.

We may be seeing a short week slowdown already starting in the financial markets. Lodging stocks were modestly lower. Deutsche Bank ‘s  Gaming, Lodging, Leisure & Restaurant Conference ‘soverarching chorus was stability in trends and company outlooks. Pebblebrook Hotel Trust , in their monthly update, referenced that the end of October brought a return of seasonality.
