Accor Reveals Asia Property Openings for 2023

  • Accor announced its list of highly anticipated properties that will open in 2023.
  • Marriott International announced it expects to reach 50 hotels in Thailand by mid-2023, including adding an anticipated eight hotels next year.
  • Anantara Veli Maldives Resort reopened on December 1, following nine months of extensive renovations.

STR said China hotel RevPAR for the week ending December 10, was down -6.4% year over year. When compared with pre-pandemic, hotel RevPAR in China was down -37.4% against the same week in 2019. Absolute occupancy was 50.5%, compared with 49.7% during the comparable week in 2021.

Accor announced its list of highly anticipated properties that will open in 2023. The openings in Asia Pacific and the Middle East include the luxury Fairmont Ramia Serviced Residences, Riyadh, SO/ Uptown Dubai, TRIBE Bangkok Sukhumvit 39, Mondrian Singapore, and Mercure Hotel Cairns in early 2023. In mid-2023, openings in these regions will include Novotel New Delhi City Centre, ibis Styles Bangkok Twin Towers, Pullman Singapore Hill Street, Rixos Qetaifan Island, Doha and the Raffles at Galaxy Macau. The Sofitel Shanghai North Bund, MontAzure Lakeside Phuket – MGallery, Movenpick by Accor, Qingdao, Mercure Tokyo Haneda along with Grand Mercure Living Chengdu & Grand Mercure Chengdu are expected to open in late 2023.

Marriott International announced it expects to reach 50 hotels in Thailand by mid-2023, including adding an anticipated eight hotels next year.  With these openings, Marriott expects to debut two new brands – Autograph Collection Hotels and Moxy Hotels. The first Autograph Collection property will be Madi Paidi Bangkok, Autograph Collection, expected in mid-2023. They will expand its extended stay portfolio with the opening of three properties under the Marriott Executive Apartments brand – Marriott Executive Apartments Bangkok, Sukhumvit 101; Marriott Executive Apartments Bangkok, Sukhumvit 50; and Marriott Executive Apartments Bangkok Townhall Sukhumvit. Two Courtyard by Marriott hotels located at Suvarnabhumi Airport and in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit area are expected to open in 2023 and the first Moxy will be the Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong.

Anantara Veli Maldives Resort reopened on December 1, following nine months of extensive renovations. The renovations on the hotel include the introduction of a new Beach Pool Villa room category, a new Villa Host service for all guests, newly redesigned restaurants and a hammam added to the wellness-focused spa. The 67 villa resort is set on a natural island in the South Male Atoll, surrounded by a pristine lagoon. There are six new Beach Pool Villas, offering 148 square meters of space with direct beach access and the utmost in privacy. The new wellness concept allows guests to book a personalized Wellness Villa experience along with much more for guests at the adults only resort.

Megaworld Hotels and Resorts soft opening for Belmont Hotel Mactan is on December 16. The grand launch is scheduled for March 2023. The 20-story business hotel has a total of 550 rooms and suites, four function rooms, one meeting room, two swimming pools, a sauna and a fully equipped fitness center. The hotel has three room categories – the Junior Suite room at 50 square meters; the Deluxe Premier room at 36 square meters, seven of which are dedicated for guests with special needs; and the Superior Deluxe Queen or Twin at 36 square meters.  The Belmont and Megaworld’s Savoy hotel, have a combined 1,100 rooms, strategically placed across a convention center for 1,500 people that is expected to start construction in 2023.  Megaworld currently has 12 properties with six brands and 4,500 rooms in key cities in the Philippines – Manila, Tagaytay, Iloilo, Boracay and Cebu.

DoubleDragon Corp, a joint venture of businessmen Edgar Sia II and Jollibee Foods Corp chairman Tony Tan Caktiong, plan to build a portfolio of 200,000 hotel rooms by 2035. Double Dragon told the Philippines Stock Exchange the planned hotel projects would be developed through direct investments, joint ventures with local companies in other countries and brand and concept licensing arrangements.  DoubleDragon’s Singapore unit, Hotel101 Global Pte, Ltd., is trying to raise $125 million from offshore venture capital markets to further their chances to achieve this goal. The Singapore unit is intended to be the future overseas IPO vehicle for the group’s international expansion of Hotel101. The first Series A tranche of Hotel101 Global is targeted to be launched in January next year with a series of investor calls with offshore venture capital institutions. The second tranche will be Series B offshore equity capital issuances. The first Hotel101 was opened in Manila in 2016. By 2023 they plan to reach 7,331 hotel rooms globally either operating or in its project pipeline. Its first international location is Hotel101 in Niseko, Hokkaido in Japan, expected to generate a total $137.3 million after selling of units begins in the first quarter of 2023.  Hotel101 Niseko will have 518 rooms, sold to investors and end-users through pre-selling activities.

Primary Homes held a groundbreaking ceremony at Royal Oceancrest Panglaoon Thursday to officially begin the construction of Tower C, which will complete the company’s first resort-style condominium in Panglao Island, Bohol in the Philippines. Royal Oceancrest Panglao is made up of three mid-rise buildings set on a 1.3 hectare site in San Isidro, Dauis, Panglao, offering 456 units consisting of smartly-designed studio and one bedroom condominium residences sized between 28 square meters and 32 square meters. Royal Oceancrest Panglao will have resort-style amenities, an infinity pool, lap pool, multi-function tennis court, and function rooms. There will also be meditation gardens, strolling lanes, fitness gym, kiddie pool and play areas as well as other wellness amenity features. The first project is sold out so PHI opened for sales their second Royal Oceancrest venture in Panglao Island, which will be situated in Dao, Dauis.

new international hospitality brand and hotel called Wafaifo has been launched in central Vietnam. The company will open the 134 key lifestyle resort, the Wafaifo Resort Hoi An in Q1 2024 as part of a strategic plan that includes a new mall, hospitality asset management service and other tourism related projects. Wafaifo intends to offer hospitality project consultancy across Indochina. Its co-founders are Managing Director Pieter van der Hoeven and Commercial Director Mikkel Krantz. They will be supported by Wafaifo Deputy Managing Director Ms. Uyen Ngo. The new brand will include a division called Wafaifo Optimisers, which aims to help hospitality clients launch new projects in the region and enhance operational efficiencies and profits.

New Otani Co., Ltd. announced it will exclusively offer at its Hotel New Otani Tokyo and Osaka a limited number of themed rooms in celebration of the fifth anniversary of BT21, the internationally popular character series by LINE FRIENDS. The rooms will be available from December 20 in Tokyo and January 7 in Osaka, both remaining until April 30.
