Asian ultraluxury resort companies are expanding into Japan to cater to wealthy overseas travelers and take advantage of the weak yen, with Soneva Holdings planning to open resorts in Japan by 2027 and investing 100 billion yen in new properties. Asia Pacific to Regain 92% of Its 2019 Business Travel This Year
The GBTA Business Travel Outlook shows Asia Pacific is forecast for significant growth, with travel spending gaining 41% to US$567 billion this year. Trip.com said outbound travel order for the upcoming Golden Week increased nearly 20 times, and domestic travel increased more than four times over the Golden Week period last year. Accor announced their Novotel brand’s fiftieth hotel opening in Greater China with its newest destination, Novotel Xi’an Aden. -

Vietnam Has an Oversupply of Hotels
China hotel RevPAR showed significant year-over-year growth of 50.4% for the week ending July 1, 2023, compared to a decline in 2019 and 7.6% decline in the same period. Vietnam’s international visitor numbers reached 70% of their 2023 projection but remained below expectations due to fierce competition and an economic recession. Domestic tourism in Vietnam is also experiencing a decline. Worldwide Hotels Group made significant acquisitions in Melbourne and Singapore , representing the largest hotel transaction in Melbourne in over six years and the largest single-asset Singapore hotel transaction in Asia Pacific in 2023. -

China Hotel RevPAR: China Hotel RevPAR increased by 44% YoY for the week, but compared to the same week in 2019, it was down by -5.9%. Macau Hotel Occupancy: Macau ‘s hotel occupancy rate in May rose by 44.6 percentage points YoY, reaching 78.9%. Three-star hotels had an 81% occupancy rate, while five-star hotels reached 79%. Boutique properties outperformed international hotels in occupancy, ADR, and RevPAR, driven by domestic, leisure-based tourism. -
