Hilton to More Than Double Its Luxury Hotels in Asia Pacific
The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 generated $2.98 billion in travel and retail spending in NSW, boosting the economy and drawing record audiences to hospitality venues. Hilton plans to open 25 new luxury hotels in the Asia Pacific region, including its Waldorf Astoria brand in countries like Malaysia, Vietnam, and India. Hotel Properties received approval for a S$1-2 billion project to redevelop prime properties on Orchard Road. The redevelopment includes twin skyscrapers, retail, office, residential spaces, and a performance theater, making it Orchard Road’s largest property redevelopment. -

Macau’s Five-Star Hotels Are Back to 2019 Rates
China’s hotel RevPAR rose 44.3% in a week, compared to a strong 89.7% rise a year ago. RevPAR also increased by 12.3% compared to 2019. Vietnam’s flexible economy attracts investors despite short-term challenges. M&A deals increased, supported by lowered interest rates, with a positive medium-term outlook. Macao’s daily visitor arrivals exceeded expectations in August, reaching 139,000 in a day. Hotel occupancy rates rebounded, hosting numerous MICE events, and a new Andaz hotel is set to open. -

China’s Travelers Favored Singapore and Indonesia in July
Chinese Hotel Performance: Hotel RevPAR in China increased by 37% compared to the same week last year, despite a strong 107.7% increase from a year ago. In comparison to 2019, RevPAR rose by 16.9%. Chinese Travelers in Singapore : Chinese tourists were the largest source of visitors to Singapore in July, doubling their numbers from June. Singapore experienced a 104.2% increase in visitor arrivals from China, contributing to a 95.3% year-on-year rise in total arrivals for the month. Hotel Openings and Expansions : Accor is partnering with Sarin Hotels for a new Sebel hotel in Wellington, New Zealand; Hotel Marvell, Byron Bay’s first five-star hotel, is opening with luxurious amenities; Melco Resorts’ W Macau hotel will open in Macau’s Studio City with 557 rooms; and Narai Hospitality Group is set to open Lub d Japan Osaka Honmachi, expanding their presence globally. -

Macau Labor Day Numbers Exceed Expectations
STR reported China hotel RevPAR for the week ended April 29 was up 138.2% year over year. The Association of Macao Tourist Agents said the first Labor Day holiday after lifting all Covid curbs had exceeded expectations. The General Statistics Office of Vietnam said the number of Chinese citizens traveling to Vietnam is on the rise with 112,000 visiting in April, up 61.5% year on year. -

Mandarin Oriental’s New CEO, Radisson’s Deal With La Vie
Mandarin Oriental announced that Laurent Kleitman will be taking over for James Riley as group chief executive from September 1, 2023. Radisson Hotel Group and La Vie Hotels & Resorts announced the signing of a Master Collaboration Agreement to add over 30 hotels to the Group’s portfolio over the next 10 years.
