Marriott Vacations, Hilton Grand Vacations, and Travel + Leisure saw their target prices cut by Goldman Sachs. Plus other industry news.

In January, Toronto hotels charged slightly more than Vancouver’s amid rising rates and lower occupancy nationwide, with Edmonton notably lagging behind.

Hilton beat estimates and cut guidance, and seemed to have a report that was accepted more than Marriott ’s.  The company has raised their net room growth target for the year and it repurchased shares this quarter.

Hilton's expansion in Canada includes nearly 20 deals signed in 2023, with plans to introduce Spark by Hilton and Motto by Hilton in 2024 – aiming to surpass 200 hotels.

Hilton announced LivSmart Studios by Hilton is the official name of its new studio apartment-style, extended-stay hotel brand. LivSmart Studios already has more that 350 deals in various stages of negotiation.

Hilton Grand Vacations is acquiring Bluegreen Vacations for approximately $1.5 billion, expanding its membership base and resort portfolio. HEI Hotels & Resorts takes over management of the Renaissance Times Square hotel in New York. Hyatt is collaborating with Parks Hospitality Holdings to develop four new properties in Mexico, including the Park Hyatt Cancun and Grand Hyatt Mexico Santa Fe.

Stock market sees mixed performance, with DJIA and Nasdaq rising while lodging stocks show mixed results. Wells Fargo initiates coverage on Airbnb with an Underweight rating. Significant developments in the hotel industry, including new hotel projects in Ann Arbor, Ottawa, Mexico City, and Portland, as well as the restoration of Book Tower in Detroit.

Let’s go backwards to give you an overview of today’s market. The 10-year treasury yield plunged 0.32 to 3.83%. That is a nearly 8% drop in the yield on a modestly better CPI report. Vacasa reported 3Q results that went over as well with investors as their weak fourth quarter guidance. The LWHA Q3 2022 Major U.S. Hotel Sales Survey includes 119 single asset sale transactions over $10 million which totaled roughly $3.7 billion.
